Absolutely epic night at the sacred space of Gloria Steinem`s brownstone celebrating Feminist.com`s 30-year anniversary with an extraordinary group of women changemakers and trailblazers — from Gloria Steinem to Dolores Huerta to Kimberlé Crenshaw and more — all of whom have been a part of my and Feminist.com`s journey and inspired me over the years. This event was a follow up to our first salon on the State of Feminism at Gloria`s back in 2012, and we had a much needed, powerful conversation about why we need feminism today and what we can all do to create a more equitable future. I will be finding many ways to share these insights in various forms soon. We were joined by so many Feminist.com Board and advisory board members past and present, including current Feminist.com Board Susan Celia Swan and Jamia Wilson, who helped plan and facilitate this special event with me. I feel so hopeful, energized, and blessed.

I don`t have the professional photos or video back yet, but these give you a sense of the magic and brilliance in the room. Stay tuned for more photos, video and other content. Thanks to everyone for being there!

I’ve been thinking a lot about Dr. Jane Goodall since her passing last week. In my latest issue of The ShiftMakers Journal on Substack, I share some cherished memories of interviewing Jane and meeting her in person – plus some additional inspiring words of wisdom from the legendary activist that weren’t included in my tribute article at Forbes.

You can read it at link in bio or at MarianneSchnall.Substack.com.

I was so sad to hear about the passing of Dr. Jane Goodall, renowned ethologist and humanitarian and someone I consider to be one of the most extraordinary women to have walked this Earth. I had the honor of interviewing her three times over the course of my career and each time left me feeling so inspired. She shared so much wisdom with me over the years, and I felt compelled to put together a tribute piece at Forbes (link in bio) featuring some of my favorites of her powerful quotes, all which resonate with these times.

On a personal note, my daughter Lotus, who had looked up to Jane since she was a young girl, created a project when she was fifteen (with Jazmin), a series of books with stuffed toys that are part of the Jane Goodall Institute’s Roots & Shoots youth action program. Lotus sent Jane copies of her books and toys and in 2021 Jane wrote her back such a kind letter saying how much she loved her books and that she hoped to meet Lotus one day. That day finally came last year when we went to an event for Jane’s 90th birthday in New York City. Though Jane was a global icon, she radiated such humility and warmth, and I watched backstage as Jane pulled Lotus in close to her, held her hand, and held up her book Jenny the Chimpanzee for a picture. I was also able to give Jane one of the Gloria Steinem “We Are Linked Not Ranked” bracelets as a birthday present, for all of her work embodying the meaning behind the bracelet, as a lifetime messenger about our interconnectedness with the animal world and nature.

Jane was such a loving, gentle spirit, while also being such a fierce, brave, and unrelenting force and voice for change. We’ve lost a true hero in Dr. Jane Goodall. She was a role model for all of us, and I hope we can continue her legacy and her hopeful message that we can all be a part of creating change. As she told me, “Together, collectively, we are making a difference.”

You can read my tribute piece at link in bio and listen to one of my interviews with her on my podcast ShiftMakers.

This past summer, while on vacation with my family, I found it harder than ever to truly disconnect. My phone kept pinging with news alerts, texts, and emails - constant reminders of the turbulence in our world. I am constantly concerned for the future of my two daughters across so many issues — all of which have also been deeply embedded in my work as a journalist and activist.

I thought, ‘Now is the time to connect with others, spread a bit of hope, and share ideas for creating change.’

So I am proud to announce the launch of a new Substack, The ShiftMakers Journal, where I’ll be sharing wisdom and inspiration from the incredible thought leaders and visionaries I’ve spoken with over the years, along with updates, inspiring reads, and ways we can all work together to create a more hopeful, sustainable, equitable world.

I hope you’ll join me there! Link in bio or go to MarianneSchnall.Substack.com.

So incredibly proud and happy for Lotus who debut her fashion line, "Astro Couture" during New York Fashion Week last weekend! (opening for legendary designer Richie Rich ) The line combines two longtime passions of hers, fashion and astrology, and features 12 looks inspired by the zodiac signs (as well as her "galaxy dress.")

Lotus has been sketching ideas and dreaming about doing fashion ever since she was a little girl and it has been so exciting to watch her vision come to life!

One of the highlights of my weekend was a "twilight tour" at Woodstock Farm Sanctuary. The girls and I always love visiting this special place and spending time with all the beautiful rescued animals. 🐄
