Happy Dolly Parton Day! 🌟 To celebrate Dolly, and as a nod to her iconic hit song and movie 9 to 5, 9/25 has been declared Dolly Parton Day. So I thought it would be fitting to share this clip from my upcoming ShiftMakers podcast tribute episode, featuring a moment from my interview with Dolly in which she talks about 9 to 5 and how proud she was to be part of such a groundbreaking film - starring alongside Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.

Beyond her extraordinary contributions to music, film, and culture at large, Dolly was a longtime philanthropist. Her Dollywood Foundation has created Give Like Dolly Day, a new annual tradition on 9/25 to honor Dolly’s generous heart and her lifelong commitment to children. They invite communities all over the world to give back to children today by supporting their local Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program. Visit ImaginationLibrary.com to learn more.

And stay tuned for the full ShiftMakers video podcast episode coming next week, featuring more of Dolly reflecting on her life and career and sharing her timeless wisdom.

As we continue to celebrate Gloria’s life, mourn this tremendous loss, and think about how we carry her work and legacy forward, this message from one of my interviews with Gloria about women coming together and supporting one another feels especially resonant.

Gloria’s last memoir in essays, An Unexpected Life, came out today. I’m so sad that I won’t have the chance to talk with her about it - we had an interview scheduled for October - but I’m deeply grateful for the many conversations and interviews we shared over the years, and for all the wisdom and insights she left us with.

I hope An Unexpected Life will offer a meaningful way for people to spend time with Gloria’s words and ideas, and to continue working toward the world she envisioned.

I’ll be sharing a special ShiftMakers podcast tribute episode soon, featuring more from my conversations with Gloria. ❤️

"Women deserve so much better” when it comes to healthcare, says Melinda French Gates in my latest @ForbesWomen interview (link in bio). We discuss new Gallup research commissioned by Melinda’s organization @pivotaldotcom that puts numbers behind the connection between women’s health and women’s power - and what it will take to build a healthcare system that better serves women.

The findings show how profoundly women’s health and healthcare experiences can affect every part of their lives - including their careers, relationships, family life, civic participation and more.

A few findings that stood out to me:

* More than half of women report at least one negative experience with a healthcare provider in the past five years.
* More than 40% say their health has limited their careers, with an even greater impact reported among women of color.
* More than half report at least one health-related impact on their family life or relationships in the past five years.

Thank you to @MelindaFrenchGates for sharing your perspectives — and for your transformative investments and important work to advance women’s health.

Still glowing from such an amazing night celebrating Lotus and her “Shine On” collection during New York Fashion Week.

Shine On is such a beautiful expression of Lotus’s creativity and personal journey - a collection inspired by individuality, transformation, the phases of the moon, and the idea of embracing who you are and letting your own light shine. And she didn’t just design the clothing - she designed the jewelry for the collection as well!

So grateful to iconic designer Richie Rich for hosting the show and for the wonderful mentorship and encouragement he has given Lotus along the way, and to Tish and Snooky, founders of Manic Panic, for being part of such a special night and so generously contributing to our VIP gift bags. It also meant so much to share the evening with so many friends and family who came out to support her.

Congratulations, Lotus! So proud of you! ❤️✨

I was devastated to hear the news of Robin Morgan’s passing. She was an extraordinary, fierce, warm human being, and a pioneering feminist, writer, poet, journalist and activist who helped shape the contemporary women’s movement. She was also a deeply important mentor to me, and I had the privilege of interviewing her numerous times over the years.

In my tribute to Robin at @ms_magazine, I share some of her brilliant insights so that her voice, her wisdom and her calls to action can continue to inspire us in the work ahead. Link in bio.

There is so much I could say about Gloria, and so much wisdom she leaves us. I gathered some of the lessons she shared with me over the years in this tribute at Forbes - words about hope, courage, community, equality and how each of us can help create change.

I hope her timeless words will continue to inspire us as we honor her remarkable life and do our part to carry on her legacy. ❤️

I woke up to the absolutely heartbreaking news about Gloria and it has been an emotional morning. She was such an important friend, mentor and supporter to me over the past three decades and gave so much light and love to the world. It has been an honor to have known her and worked with her in so many capacities over the years. I will do everything in my power to continue to lift up her words and carry on her legacy.

As she told me, "Whatever small change we make will be like pebble in a pond, it will reverberate outward." Gloria, just as you influenced my life, you have sent out ripples of hope and change in the world, creating a legacy of activism across generations. There will be much more from me to celebrate and pay tribute to Gloria coming soon. ❤️

"If you know yourself, you’re gonna shine and radiate and other people are going to be drawn to you.”

As we remember the life and legacy of Dolly Parton - whose extraordinary talent, joyful spirit and enormous heart made her one of the most beloved figures in American culture - it seems especially fitting to draw on some of her own timeless words of wisdom. Here’s a selection of some of the lessons and insights she shared with me when I had the great pleasure of interviewing her in 2016.

What came through in our conversation was everything people loved about her: her warmth and humor, but also her thoughtfulness, resilience, faith, generosity and profound belief in our capacity to make life better for one another.

I look forward to sharing more of our conversation in a special ShiftMakers podcast tribute episode coming soon.

Like so many people around the world, I was deeply saddened by the passing of the incomparable Dolly Parton. I had the great honor of interviewing Dolly several years ago and felt compelled to revisit some of the wisdom, warmth and humanity she shared with me then in a @ForbesWomen tribute piece (link in bio).

When I asked Dolly what she thought the world needed most, her answer was simple and profound: more love, acceptance, understanding, forgiveness - and more listening. Her words feel especially poignant today, and perhaps more needed now than ever.

I feel so grateful to have had the opportunity to interview her and to now be able to pass on some of her inspiring insights.

I’ll also be posting a special ShiftMakers video tribute to Dolly soon, featuring more of our conversation and her timeless words of wisdom.

Thank you, Dolly, for the music, the joy, the generosity - and for being such a shining light in this world. ✨
