As today marks 4 years since Roe v. Wade was overturned, my @ForbesWomen piece highlights insights from leaders in business, philanthropy and advocacy who are building cross-movement power to safeguard and expand access to reproductive care and freedom. They share their perspectives on how the rollback of abortion rights has impacted women, workplaces, the economy and democracy – and where they see opportunities for progress moving forward.

Featuring:

*Kavita Nandini Ramdas, philanthropic advisor to the International Planned Parenthood Federation @ippf_global.

* Jen Stark, Director of Human Rights and Inclusive Business at BSR and co-founding member of Don’t Ban Equality (DBE)

* Ann Warner, Executive Director of the Collaborative for Gender + Reproductive Equity (CGRE)

Read more from my in-depth interview with the incredibly insightful Kimberlé Crenshaw in my latest @ms_magazine piece. She discusses her new book *Backtalker: An American Memoir* (which just became a New York Times bestseller!) and shares her thoughts on the high stakes of our current political juncture, why we need “a robust intersectional framework” to address this moment, the importance of embracing our humanity, and much more.

She told me, “The other side doesn’t want us to feel empathy. They are going after the very thing that makes it possible for us to come together and claim injustice as wrong. We’re led to feel weak when we’re sad or when we experience the pain of others, and to look away from it…. We can’t turn away; we have to say, ‘That’s my humanity calling me in.’ I want to see more willingness to embrace humanity.”

My latest @ForbesWomen piece features an excerpt from my recent interview with Kimberlé Crenshaw, whose compelling, deeply personal new book *Backtalker: An American Memoir* came out today.

I’m always so honored to speak with Kimberlé and help uplift her wisdom and insights, particularly in this moment when so much is at stake.

As she told me, “I think it’s most important for people to understand right now that the final chapter hasn`t been written - and it won`t get written without us. So this is not something that just passes by. It is something that requires active engagement.”

Such an energizing night at the @MsFoundation Awards, centered on the theme “Celebrating Community: Go. Be. Do.,” which honored the transformative leadership and legacy of Teresa Younger, along with inspiring Women of Vision, and announced Tracy Sturdivant as their new president and CEO.

It was wonderful to connect with so many treasured members of my community and incredible leaders, including Jamia Wilson, Glynda Carr, Ted Bunch, Kavita Ramdas, Gloria Feldt, Deja Foxx, and Tracy Gray — as well as well-deserved honorees Fatima Goss Graves, Patti Russo, Tarana Burke, and so many more. And it’s always great to share these moments with my daughter Jazmin.

My organization Feminist.com has a special history with the Ms. Foundation: we helped create their first web presence in the early days of the internet, and I’ve covered their visionary work as a journalist, in addition to being a grantee.

The night was a powerful reminder of the strength of our collective. Being in the company of so many fired up, committed leaders gave me real hope. So grateful to be part of this community. 💜 🙌

In honor of the first official Jane Goodall Day, on what would have been her 92nd birthday, I wanted to share what Jane’s response was when I asked her, “What is your wish for the future?” My hope is that we can all take her advice and connect our hearts to our heads, so that we can carry on Jane’s legacy of compassion, hope, and activism to make the world a better place.

Jane’s incredible work lives on through all the lives she touched and through her organizations the Jane Goodall Institute and its youth activism program Roots & Shoots (which my daughter Lotus participated in, writing children’s books as part of her @BearsforCares Roots & Shoots project, as seen in the photo.

For more inspiring quotes from Jane you can listen to our conversation on my podcast ShiftMakers (link in bio).

To celebrate Jane and support her work, consider donating to the Jane Goodall Institute, which is matching all donations today.

My latest @womensmediacenter piece uplifts an important new report released today: Accelerating Efforts to End Child Marriage, commissioned by Sheryl Sandberg with support from Hillary Clinton and produced by the Institute of Global Politics (IGP) Women’s Initiative at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.

I had the chance to interview Sandberg, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, the first lady of Sierra Leone, and Rachel Vogelstein, co-author of the report and co-director of IGP Women’s Initiative, who shared their insights on the detrimental moral and economic impacts of child marriage – which traps 12 million girls a year in cycles of poverty, violence, and lost potential – and some of the key findings from the report, which outlines strategies that can effectively reduce this practice.

A launch event will be livestreamed today, featuring conversations with these women along with other advocates, leaders, and survivors. Find out more and read the article at link in bio.
